Plan your canal holiday on the Kennet and Avon Canal
Our base in Honeystreet is perfecty positioned to offer holidays in both directions. When planning your trip, really you just need to choose which direction you would like to travel and decide the duration of your holiday.
How far can we go during our canal boat holiday?
East or west?
If you go West, you'll have roughly 5 hours of cruising before you get to Devizes. Just after Devizes is Caen Hill flight which is only advisable when hiring for a week or more as navigating these 16 locks (26 including a few either side of the flight) will take anywhere between 2 and 5 hours - and ofcourse you'll need to head back up again on your return leg. The route towards Bath really is an amazing route packed full of things to see and do - definately worth doing if you're planning a trip for a week or more. Highlights include the Saxon town of Bradford-on-Avon and the Roman city of Bath.
Heading East is a wonderful experience if you're looking for a holiday away from it all in peaceful countryside. There are enough locks to keep you active, plenty to see and do and fantastic canalside pubs along the entire route. - A definate favourite with our guests, unless you're eager to visit Bath in the opposite direction.
Lock free holidays
If you're after a holiday with no locks then you're in for a treat! The Long Pound is a 15 mile lock free area of the K&A between Devizes to the West and Wootton Rivers to the East.
