Weekend holiday itinerary

Please note, this route itinerary takes you East of Honeystreet. You can also head West which will take you as far as Devizes. You won't have time to navigate Caen Hill Flight so you'll need to turn at Devizes - A lovely route if you're just after a relaxing few days with no locks!

Friday

Honeystreet to Wilcot / Pewsey - LOCKS 0 / MILES 3.5 - 4.5 / TIME 1.5 - 2 HOURS

Arrive for your 15:00 handover at Honeystreet Wharf to meet your instructor. Cruise 1.5 - 2 hours East to the picturesque village of Wilcot (bridge 117). Here you can enjoy a meal at The Golden Swan pub. Alternatively, travel half an hour further to Pewsey - our local village which has a variety of shops and restaurants. The Waterfront Bar and Bistro is a canalside restaurant renowned for it's lovely fish specials and guest ales. For something different head into Pewsey for a fantastic curry at Tale of Spice - a popular Indian resturant where you can take away or eat in.

Saturday

Wilcot or Pewsey to Wootton Rivers - 3 or 4 hours

Travel east through beautiful Wiltshire countryside. Moor up at Wootton Rivers before the turning point to visit the The Royal Oak for lunch. There are beautiful walks around the countryside and you will be able to look at the locks on the towpath walking towards Crofton. Turn around at the Wooton Rivers winding hole and travel back towards Honeystreet and moor at Wilcot / Wide Water for the night.

Sunday

Travel west passed Honeystreet and on to All Cannings and The Kings Arms - 2 or 3 hours hours or The Bridge Inn at Horton - 4 or 5 hours for Sunday lunch. Make sure that you note the turning points and allow enough time to travel back east towards Honeystreet and moor near the Wharf to ready to return by 9.30am on Monday morning.

Monday morning

Pewsey / Wilcot to Honeystreet or Horton / All Cannings  to Honeystreet - LOCKS 0 / MILES 3.5 - 4.5 / TIME 1.5 - 2 HOURS or 2 - 3 HOURS

NB: The route suggested above is an example. If you're an ambitious crew, why not aim to travel a little further to Great Bedwyn. For those of you wanting a less active holiday with no locks, plan to turn-around at Wootton Rivers or head the opposite direction and turn at Devizes. For a short break we highly recommend heading East. The reason for this is to avoid Caen Hill Flight of locks, located 4.5 hours West of us near Devizes. It's a fantastic part of the canal to navigate, however this staircase of locks will take up the majority of a day to navigate, so heading East maximises the distance you can travel during your weekend hire. It's best to take a boat for at least a week heading in this direction if you want to do the flight.
